When Pumbaa, a grey 10-year-old pig and Timon, a little Chihuahua, arrived at an animal shelter, it didn't take long before it became clear to staff that the two shared a very strong friendship.
BFFs!
Pumbaa and Timon were housed separately at the shelter because dogs and pigs are not generally recommended to live together. However, they were able to regularly visit each other. And that's when staff could see the wonderful relationship they share. It became obvious that the unlikely duo share a deep bond, which even saw Timon being able to hitch a ride on Pumbaa's back.
As Pumbaa has a few medical issues, the shelter was keen to find the pair a new pig-friendly home that would be able to care for his needs and also be able to take in Timon. Fortunately, their hard work paid off when they came across a pig sanctuary that agreed to give Pumbaa and Timon a permanent home together.
Happy ever after
The pair have settled in very well to their new home, especially Pumbaa, a rather gregarious pig, described by his new carers as a "natural greeter" and loves nothing more than greeting people who arrive at the sanctuary. He's already lined up to help with tours when they resume later this year.
Timon and Pumbaa, is that you?! Though it’s not always recommended that pigs and dogs live together, this unlikely duo...

Hakuna Matata means no worries for the rest of our days, and that's certainly true now for these two.
