Back in 2019, police brought a senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Ricky to an animal shelter in Germany.
A very sad story
The poor dog had been reported by neighbours after he’d been heard barking all night. When the police entered the apartment, they found that the dog’s owner had passed away.
Unfortunately, the woman had no immediate family who could take in her pet, so that’s how he ended up in the shelter.
Old with a heart of gold
This was heartbreaking for shelter staff as the dog was old, weak, and deaf. Not to mention he’d never known life outside of his home with his owner. Despite this, the little dog followed the animal care staff into his kennel with great enthusiasm…as if he trusted that they would take good care of him.
Thankfully, shelter staff did everything they could to get the poor little guy adopted. They posted a photo of him on Facebook, and within a few weeks, Ricky was picked up by his new forever family.
A happy ending for a very deserving dog!
