When Phoenix arrived at the San Diego Humane Society, no one could have predicted the dog's future.
In November 2020, the malnourished stray dog who was covered in fleas and missing fur was also diagnosed with cancer. As People magazine reported, it was a transmissible venereal tumour (TVT) that was discovered by the veterinary team.
Fortunately, Phoenix, who was 4 years old at the time, was a good candidate for chemotherapy because his malignant tumour was discovered soon enough.
A stray dog that underwent 13 chemotherapy treatments
In total, the stray dog underwent no less than 13 chemotherapy treatments. Thanks to these treatments, the cancerous masses gradually shrank.
In order to give the dog the best possible chance, Dr. Colleen Tansey, who works at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, treated the sick animal with electrochemotherapy. On two occasions, he travelled to San Diego to treat the dog.
The dog beat cancer
This great show of solidarity worked miracles because Phoenix managed to beat the cancer. On this occasion, the veterinary team that accompanied the stray dog during his fight decided to mark the occasion by organising a small party for him.
Like a rock star, the dog was cheered by the nursing staff and was spoiled with many gifts and a beautiful cake made especially for him.
As you can see from a video shared on Twitter, Phoenix was delighted with the party.
