Born 96 years ago on this day, Queen Elizabeth is now the longest-ruling monarch in all of British history.

It’s no mystery that Queen Elizabeth is a huge animal lover. Over the course of her life, she has owned over 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis. In fact, she currently owns two, as well as a Dachshund-Corgi cross.

Dogs, ponies...

But she’s not all about Corgis. Queen Elizabeth loves all kinds of dogs, and she’s also got a soft spot for horses and ponies. In fact, just last month, she was captured in a photo with two of her fell ponies, Byback Katie and Byback Nightingale.

The Queen is spending her birthday at her estate in Sandringham, where she often vacationed with her late husband.

A special day

We are sure that on this special day, the Queen is surrounded by her many beloved family members (two and four legged)!

So in honour of the most royal of all pet owners in the UK, we’ve gathered our top 6 favourite photos of her with her animals! Check out the gallery above to see them!

    6. A life's passion

Queen Elizabeth was raised around dogs. Her parents owned Corgis before she did! Here, at just 10 years old, she’s cuddling with one of her favourite dogs of all time, Dookie. Dookie was said to be « unquestionably the character of the Princesses’ delightful canine family, » as well as being, 'a born sentimentalist'.
