Around a month ago, a large storm hit Germany. Baptised ‘Zeynep’ the storm had strong winds which uprooted many trees and sent their leaves and branches flying.
Not so innocent
While the storm thankfully did not cause any casualties, it did have some repercussions. One dog owner took to Facebook to warn others of a danger caused by the storm.
Indeed, while taking a walk in the forest, the owner came upon a strange brown pile. Upon closer inspection, she realised it was a processionary moth’s nest, which had been blown out of the branches of the trees!
Dangers of processionary moth hairs
While the nest was empty, it was likely to still contain the hairs of the moths, which are extremely irritating to both animals and humans. Contact with these hairs can cause itching skin rashes, eye irritations, as well as sore throats and difficulty breathing.
If you see something like this while out on a walk, make sure your dog doesn’t go anywhere near it!
