If you’re a Crufts fanatic, then you know that the winner of Best In Show this year was a beautiful Flat-coated Retriever. But had you ever heard of the breed before?

Flat-coated Retrievers are a relatively rare breed, so this may the first time you’ve heard of them! Yet, they’re wonderful dogs and they deserve a little more attention!

Are Flat-coated Retrievers aggressive?

Agression is not a personality trait in Flat-coated Retrievers, as they should be sociable, friendly dogs. However, as with any dog, make sure you get your pet from a reputable breeder, that you socialise them properly, and put the effort into training. 

What is a Flat-coated Retriever a mix of?

It’s thought that Flat-coated Retrievers are a mix of Newfoundlands, Labrador Retrievers, Irish Setters, and various water spaniels. In other words, they’re a miss-mosh of many other breeds!

Do Flat-coated Retrievers get along with cats?

Flat-coated Retrievers are friendly and sociable dogs, but as a gundog, they need to be properly socialised with cats before you trust them to be alone with one.
