There’s nothing worse for a pet owner than losing their beloved cat or dog. Until the moment they are found, the world seems like a dark and sad place…

A couple of years ago, the Licata family were having a gloomy holiday season.

Sadly, their beloved Pug, Piper, had suddenly gone missing.

Pug goes missing

The family had looked for Piper everywhere, posting ‘reward’ posters all over the city and on social media. But sadly, Piper was nowhere to be found.

Though it was hard on everyone, it was particularly so for teenage boy, Carter. Piper had been his 12th birthday gift, and the pair had been inseparable ever since. When Piper went missing, Carter sank into deep despair. He was so sad about losing his dog that he felt sick all the time and was unable to get into the Christmas spirit.

An incredible call

But, miraculously, just 2 weeks after losing Piper, April Licata, Carter’s mum, received a call from a local shelter. They had a dog that looked a lot like Piper. And when she went to pick her up, she realised it was, in fact, her beloved pet!

Carter was away when Piper was found, so April decided to surprise her son with the good news.

Emotional reunion between boy and his dog

Once he was back in town, she went to pick him up from school, Piper by her side. At first, Carter walks towards the car nonchalantly, just like he would any other normal day. But when he realises that Piper is in the front seat, staring at him and wagging her tail, he suddenly breaks into tears.

Carter then rushes into the car and picks Piper up, holding her tight, and sobbing into her coat as she tries to lick his face. April can be heard crying in the background too. And we know you’ll be crying too once you see this video!

Apparently Christmas miracles do exist!

I can’t even! Edited story for the curious! On November 18, we let our pug, Piper, out to go potty, and she didn’t come back when we called her. It had been a long two and a half weeks for my oldest two children, Carter and Natalie, thinking they would never see their puppy again. Piper was a very special gift for Carter’s 12th birthday: he had always wanted a black pug since he spent his baby years with another pug he loved very much -Oliver- who had to go live with another family while his baby brother was sick. We posted and shared and talked to neighbors, news venues, and community groups but as the days passed, our hope waned. But then, amazingly we got a message this Monday night that a dog that looked like Piper had been picked up and taken to the animal shelter. I was truly shocked. We had all resigned ourselves to the reality that she prolly wouldn’t come back. Lo and behold, it was her! Seeing her little tail wag as she came out from the back of the GeneseeCounty AnimalShelter where she had been so well taken can of, I lost it!! Carter and Natalie were out of town for a few days with their dads family, and so I hoped to make their reunions special. This video is no doubt the embodiment of that! It’s so amazing to see the love, and honestly the video says more than any words I could write. My son loves his dog so much, was sick while she was gone, and tonite she’s sleeping next to him again. What a Christmas miracle for our family and thank you to everyone who helped bring Piper home ❤️
