Walking a dog is not only good for our physical health. Indeed, a recent study performed by the University of Animal Health Technology in Tokyo has discovered that walking a dog can help us fight stress.
Why walking a dog is good for fighting stress
Researchers compared stress levels between people who walked on their own and people who walked their dogs. Stress levels were significantly lower for the dog walkers!
This is probably due to the fact that dog owners are happy to see their dogs enjoying themselves. Plus, dogs help us focus on the now – it’s harder to think about all the stressful things in our lives when you’re looking at your dog running around happily and simply enjoying the moment.
Other benefits of owning a dog
This is not the only study that has proved that dogs are good for our mental health. Other studies have shown that dog owners are less likely to suffer from depression and anxiety than non-dog owners.
So now it’s official – dogs make pretty much everything in life better!
