A few months ago, Animal Control caught a dog they had seen wandering around a garden in South Carolina.

The dog’s state clearly indicated that they had been neglected for a very long time. Indeed, the dog’s coat was so matted that no-one could tell what breed they were, what sex, or even which end their head was!

Matted dog brought into clinic to be shaved

Animal Control immediately brought the dog to an Animal Hospital where staff was shocked. They worked for four hours to shave off 15 lbs of matted fur.

After all that work, they finally realised that the animal underneath all that fur was a Cocker Spaniel mix, male, of probably around 9 years of age. He was affectionately named ‘Pat the Mat’.

Dog transformed after grooming

Though Pat could understandably hold a grudge against humans, he really doesn’t. He’s a happy-go-lucky dog who loves nothing more than playing and spending time with people.

He’s currently in a foster home but hopes he will find his perfect forever family soon.

We wish you the best of luck, Pat! You really deserve it.
