The chances of that happening are slim and I'm happy to be alive.” Ruth had the scare of her life one night, but she had Toby by her side to save her life.

Ruth Hamilton survived the passage of a meteorite which passed through her ceiling to crash a few centimeters from her head in her room, on the night of Saturday 2 to Sunday 3 October, in the city of Golden (Canada) in Colombia -British.

Ruth’s dog: Her hero!

Ruth is the proud mum of a sweet and attentive rescue dog. His name is Toby. Since she adopted Toby, they have both been inseparable. Toby would do anything to protect its new mum.

Ruth was lying in bed asleep one night, when she woke up suddenly because Toby was barking. She didn’t think much of it at first, but Toby was barking a lot and started to get agitated. It seemed extremely urgent…

"He barked twice, as if to say, 'Get up!'" Hamilton told The Dodo. "It was a loud bark. My family likes to believe he caused me to roll over."

And it's a good thing that he did.

A meteorite went through the ceiling!

Ruth was awakened in the night by her dog’s bark and then heard a violent explosion. The Canadian saw, after turning on the light in her bedroom, a huge hole "the size of a fist" in her ceiling.

After contacting the police, she then discovered "a piece of black rock, smooth but angular" on her pillow, very close to where she was sleeping peacefully.

According to the first observations made by the Canadian police, the rock found in the house of Ruth Hamilton would be a meteorite.

Interviewed as part of this investigation, workers working nearby confirmed having seen in the night "a shining ball in the sky" according to the Canadian newspaper.

According to CTV News Vancouver, the probability of a meteorite crashing into a house is 1 in 4 trillion. Thanks to Toby, Ruth is still among us to tell us this incredible story.
