Just the thought of losing our dogs can get most owners emotional. But none has it harder than Nicola Freeman, who has been directly confronted to that possibility.

On Thursday night last week, Nicola Freeman was out with her son.

At around 8pm, she received a notification on her phone – her Ring doorbell camera was picking up on some activity in front of the house.

CCTV shows man spotting dogs inside house

As soon as Nicola returned home, she watched the video. And what she discovered sent shivers running up her spine.

The person at the door had rung the doorbell, then when he noticed no-one was home, he peered inside. When he saw the barking dogs, he excitedly said: Pomeranian!, and proceeded to write this down in his notepad.

The man was wearing a sort of uniform and a badge around his neck, as if he had dressed up to impersonate a charity worker or something of the sort, just in case someone did show up at the door.

Beware of dog nappers

Since seeing the video, Nicola has alerted the police, who assured her that this type of occurrence is unfortunately common, and can indeed lead to a kidnapping.

Nicola is afraid to go walk her dogs on her own now, quite understandably.

Keep a close eye on your pets! These dog nappers are still rampant at the moment!
