Simba never smiled. Puppies are normally happy and playful, but for some reason Simba never wanted to play. He was never even particularly interested in his family.

A radical decision

After a little while, Simba's family decided to bring him to a shelter to be euthanized. Astonished by the sad puppy, the shelter staff didn’t want to euthanize him but instead, they wanted to understand why Simba seemed so unhappy.

First, the volunteers thought that Simba was sick. So they decided to take him to the vet. The puppy was then examined and the vet immediately found what was wrong with the puppy: Simba was in fact suffering from a high fever caused by a tick. He wasn't sad, he was clinging to life.

A new start for Simba

Following this discovery, the vet put Simba on medication to treat his fever and get him back on his feet. After a few days of treatment the dog started to get better and showed everyone how happy and playful he can be too!

Now, Simba is the happiest dog  in his new family. A well-deserved second chance.

When an animal does not act normally, there is a good chance that it is in pain. And if it's your pet, it's your responsibility to help it get better! Even though Simba's story dates back to a few years ago, it shows just how vigilant you have to be with your pet.
