The hardest thing about owning a dog is that they don’t live as long as we do, and sadly, there comes a day where we are forced to say goodbye.

Carlos Fresco’s 10-year-old Labradoodle named Monty suffered from leukaemia for 18 months.

Bucket list for a dying dog

Carlos knew that Monty wouldn’t make it, but he was determined to make sure that his last moments in this life would count. So he started to think about what would make Monty happy.

And suddenly, he got the best idea! When Monty was in perfect health, he loved hiking in Brecon, Wales. Sadly, Monty’s current condition wouldn’t allow him to hike as he used to. But that didn’t stop Carlos.

The devoted dog owner placed comfortable pillows and blankets inside a wheelbarrow to make it as comfortable as possible for his best pal. Then, he placed Monty inside and started pushing! The duo were hiking together once again!

Monty loved seeing his favourite place again and sharing this special moment with his beloved owner. He also received tons of attention from fellow hikers who stopped to say hello.

It’s hard to say goodbye

Monty stayed strong until Father’s Day and passed soon after while sleeping at the foot of Carlos’ bed. His owner greatly misses him, but Carlos can be proud of what he did. Thanks to his kind gesture, Monty had the best last few days, and knew he was loved until the very end.

Wherever he is now, we’re sure he’s still watching over Carlos.

RIP, Monty.
