At 7AM yesterday, New Jersey State Police was called about a Golden Retriever seen swimming alone in the bay, about 70 metres away from shore.

The officers instantly knew something must be wrong and the poor dog needed rescuing. They rushed off to their motorboats and went to look for the animal in need.

One lucky dog

Once they were able to approach it, they coaxed the dog back to shore. Once on land, they realised that the dog was exhausted, malnourished, and very hungry.

The dog was quite skittish and didn’t trust the officers. But once they were able to contact his owners, his demeanour completely changed.

“He was ecstatic to be reunited with his grateful owners,” posted New Jersey State Police.

Golden Retriever missing for days

It turns out the Golden Retriever, named Chunk, had taken fright two weeks ago while playing outside with his owners. He had disappeared into the woods without leaving a trace. His owners had done everything they could to find him, including posting on social media, putting out traps, and setting up surveillance cameras – all with no luck.

The people who contacted the police had spotted Chunk on his own and tried to grab him, but he got scared, and that’s how he ended up in the water. The poor dog has been through a lot!

But now he can relax and get pampered by his loving owners once again. Lucky dog!
