In April 2018, it was still snowing in Toronto, Canada. And while the snow turns the city into a winter wonderland, it can also be very dangerous for its occupants.

Sprocket the dog had a close call a few years ago during a Toronto snowstorm

At first, she was just enjoying a little stroll through her backyard. But CCTV footage captures the moment when things suddenly took a turn for the worst.

Close call

Sprocket hears a loud “crack” and jumps, suddenly running towards the house in fear. Seconds later, a huge branch comes falling out of the sky and crashes into Sprocket’s yard, partially destroying the fence and the barbecue.

The neighbour’s tree had clearly been weakened by the storm and had fallen as a result of it.

A dog’s instincts

Sprocket is one lucky dog. If she hadn’t moved away just in time, she might’ve been crushed by the branch. Thankfully, she was absolutely fine. Of the incident, her owner, Ben Lucier, said:

“It was shocking…We’re really lucky.”

But according to Ben, Sprocket’s actions weren’t that surprising. Indeed, he describes her as an instinctual dog. In a moment of fear, she went to the one place she felt safe: To her owner’s side. And thanks to her quick thinking, she’s still at his side today!

What a good girl!
