Meghan Markle became the patron for the Mayhew charity in 2019. When she and Harry stepped back from their Royal titles, she ended her patronage at some charities, but not the Mayhew, which holds a special place in her heart.

Just a few days ago, the Mayhew published their 2020 annual review, which included a forward written by their patron, Meghan Markle.

Dogs: The real heroes of the pandemic

In it, she wrote about the importance that pets have had in our lives during a year in which it was hard to see each other.

They kept us company and comforted us in times where we might have been grieving, lonely, or even sick ourselves!

Meghan Markle thanks Mayhew for their work

She then went on to the thank the supporters of the Mayhew, as their donations enabled the charity to continue their work rescuing cats and dogs during a time where adaptation was the only way to move forward.

“As we collectively build to the future, my sincere hope is that we do so with ongoing support and appreciation for organizations like Mayhew, who continue their vital work in days of crisis and in days of calm,” she wrote.

Though Markle has been under criticism lately due to the tensions in the Royal family, her forward was clearly heartfelt and personal, speaking to animal lovers everywhere.
