Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've had to cover stories about the wave of dog thefts that have occurred across the UK since lockdown began.
Pets, and dogs in particular, are in higher demand than ever before and this has brought out some of the worst type of criminals.
Gail Barlow, an elderly woman, was the proud owner of a seven-year-old Chihuahua named Dinky.
"Free dog washes"
When Gail saw a van on her road offering free washes for dogs, she thought it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
But, despite the van looking every inch legitimate and proudly proclaiming itself to be “Ron’s Dog Wash”, it was in fact a front for dog thieves.
Dinky was never returned and Gail is heartbroken.
A social mission
With the help of her grandchild, she took to social media to share pictures of Dinky in the hopes that someone, somewhere will be able to help.
In the post, she shared that Dinky was stolen from the Portsmouth area but could be anywhere now. She also revealed that little Dinky has a heart murmur and needs regular medication so she fears the thieves will simply dump her when they realise.
Dog lovers are helping her with her search and have set up a dedicated facebook page to help bring Dinky home.
