Fate hasn't been kind to 8-year old Chihuahua Nessie. She came from an unlicensed puppy mill that used unethical overbreeding methods. Overbreeding can cause a long list of genetic abnormalities. In Nessie's case, she was born without front legs.

Then she bounced between foster homes, shelters, and well-intentioned dog parents who thought they had what it takes to care for a pooch with special needs.

Nessie finds her hero

Poor Nessie probably thought she was never going to find her forever home. But then Theresa Loyacano came along. She spotted Nessie's story while browsing social media and knew she had to help.

"She had been returned to the shelter multiple times because people didn't want her," said Theresa. "I couldn't bear the thought of her being abandoned like that. I thought to myself, 'We need to go get her.'"

Nessie settled into her new home straight away. And as she started soaking up all the love on offer, Nessie became more playful and adventurous. She even taught herself to stand up on two hind legs and walk upright like a kangaroo!

Canine training school: 6 tricks to teach a puppy

Watching Nessie's transformation inspired Theresa to adopt two more special needs pups with similar issues. Their names are Frankie Lou and Ali.

The cutest puppy training session ever!

Nessie took to being the big sister like a natural. She started teaching her siblings everything she knows, including how to walk on two legs. And it didn't take Frankie Lou long to master the 'Kangoroo' strut. Now he's up and walking around just like his big sis!

Theresa caught her fur baby's first steps on camera and shared the adorable footage on Youtube. Watch it below. But be warned: the following video contains scenes of extreme cuteness!
