She was the adorable pup in the watermelon smile photo loved by fans of Twitter's 'Thoughts of Dog' page.
But the dog who 'gave voice to dogs everywhere' has sadly passed away, the page revealed.
Halo became a Twitter sensation after a photo of her smiling and holding a slice of watermelon in her mouth was used as the profile picture for the social media account. Her owners originally submitted the adorable picture to the WeRateDogs website in 2016. The photo soon became the inspiration behind much of the content on Thoughts of Dog.
Thoughts of Dog have amassed as many as 3.6 million Twitter followers and is a favourite among dog lovers for its regular canine content. Every post on the page is accompanied by the gorgeous pic of Halo and her watermelon snack.
But fans were left broken-hearted when a Twitter post revealed that the adorable pup had recently passed away. A post told devastated fans that Halo had:
This is Halo, but you know her better as the @dog_feelings profile pic. Her iconic watermelon smile has given a voice to dogs everywhere. Halo passed away last week at the age of 9. She went peacefully and surrounded by her family. She didn’t suffer for a moment. 15/10 ❤️ pic.twitter.com/BaKeeKmhlx— WeRateDogs® (@dog_rates) May 10, 2021
Following the announcement, dog lovers flooded Twitter with condolence messages. One fan posted: "May you rest easy Halo, your watch over the skittle under the fridge has ended. You will be missed but not forgotten."
Halo's owners have given the page permission to continue using Halo's iconic photo, so to fans' delight, the adorable pup will live on with each post.
Rest in Peace, Halo.
