If you just look at the President giving his speech from this angle, everything seems pretty normal.
He seems serious and focused, just as a President should be when giving a speech. But there's actually a lot more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye.
Like most pups, gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dog Misneach hasn't quite got the hang of boundaries. Because when his power dog dad, Irish President Michael Higgins, gave a live televised speech earlier this week, the cuddle hungry pup decided he wanted the attention instead!
The cheeky canine appeared halfway through the speech and began tugging on his dog dad's coat. And when that didn't work, he decided to give his human's hand a gentle chew.
Cuddles now, politics later!
And you don't need to be fluent in 'dog' language to know what that means. But just in case you're unsure, it goes something like this: 'ignore everything else and give me cuddles!"
The short clip has over 1million views on Twitter, with people calling the dog's surprise appearance 'adorable' and 'heartwarming.' And President Higgins received plenty of praise for managing to continue the speech while simultaneously satisfying his dog's desire for ear scratches.
What's more important than a belly rub?
Seven-month old Misneach is one of Higgins' two Bernese mountain dogs. The other is two-year-old Brod, and he's also got a track record of gatecrashing important events.
Last year Brod invited himself to a high-profile meeting between the Irish President and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Why? Because he wanted some strokes. And when you're a cute pup, that's a good enough reason to interrupt anyone's day. After all, what could be more important than a belly rub?
