Australian Shepherd Bitsy and Steve Kristal share an incredible bond. Steve has always been there to take care of Bisty whenever her dog mum, Steve's daughter Hayden, needs a helping paw.

Steve's doggy-grandpa duties include taking Bitsy for walks, making sure she gets the proper medical attention, and doing what all grandparents do best - dishing out the treats!

Would Bitsy remember her gramps?

But when the pandemic struck last year, Steve was forced to self-isolate. It meant he couldn't see his precious Bitsy anymore. And as the weeks apart turned into months, Steve started to worry that Bitsy might forget all about her grandpa.

The pair recently united after Steve received his second COVID-19 vaccination. Steve thought Bitsy would need a few minutes to recognise his scent. After all, she hadn't had a good whiff of grandpa for over 18-months.

Are yearly vaccinations for dogs necessary?

But all it took was one sniff, and Bitsy was jumping for joy. The loving pooch then covered grandpa in kisses and licks, proving that absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

"As soon as I got within scent range, she totally lost her mind with joy," said Steve. "And so did I. She is a truly unique and wonderful soul. We love each other so much."

Better times ahead

Steve's daughter shared a video of the adorable reunion on Tiktok. It now has over 20k likes and hundreds of comments from people blown away by the strength of Steve and Bitsy's incredible connection.

The cute clip certainly warmed our hearts. More importantly, it's a sign that better times are on the way for people and their pooches. So let's hope we start seeing more of these reunion videos!
