Ms Meng and her pet cat Fu Fu live together in Xuzhou, eastern China.
The pair recently became internet stars after a video of the moggy went viral that revealed just how little Fu Fu feels when his owner is away.
Shy British Shorthair
It all started when Ms Meng went to visit her parents in a nearby town to celebrate the Lunar New Year. She wasn’t able to take her two-year-old British shorthair cat, Fu Fu, with her because he’s shy and clingy.
So she left plenty of food and water out for him and kept a close eye on him thanks to the CCTV cameras installed in her home. During her trip, Ms Meng logged into the security camera app on her phone to check in on her feline friend. But she was left feeling heartbroken at what she saw.
While in the clip, later shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, Fu Fu can be heard purring. But the poor kitty seems to have tears in his eyes. As his owner is heard saying, “do you miss me? I will come back in a few days,” heartbreakingly, Fu Fu turns to look at the door as if expecting his owner to appear at that moment. He then touches the camera with his paw.
Despite having plans to stay with her parents for a week, Ms Meng decided to return home to Fu Fu earlier than planned. When she arrived home, Fu Fu excitedly ran towards her, overjoyed to finally have his favourite human back home.
The emotional clip has so far received over eight million likes and over 250,000 comments that nickname Fu Fu, the ‘left behind cat’.
