Mocha the one-year-old Pittie arrived at the Rowan County Animal Shelter in bad shape. She was severely underweight, covered in fleas, and terrified of anyone who came near.

The shelter staff didn't know much about Mocha's previous owner, but it's clear they didn't know how to love a dog. Or even take care of its basic needs.

The clock starts ticking

But Mocha had an even bigger problem. With limited space at the shelter and more dogs waiting for help, Mocha needed to find a family. And fast. If not, she'd be put down.

But this poor pooch shook with fear every time people walked past her kennel. And she was so withdrawn that prospective puppy parents couldn't see the loving dog hiding deep inside her.

Mocha's sad story broke everybody's heart. So one person decided to make a special effort to give Mocha a chance at the life dogs deserve. Her name was Albina Chanel.

Faith is restored

The amazing volunteer spent extra time with Mocha, showing her that not all humans are bad. Then she posted a cute pic of Mocha on the shelter's Facebook page, along with a heartbreaking plea for help. It read:

"Dear humans. I sit here on death row. I'm only a year old. I haven't had a good life at all. I shake so much in my kennel that people walk past me. I can't help it. Humans haven't been nice to me. Please consider adopting me and giving me a chance at a good life. You can find me in kennel #5."

And the response restored Albina's (and Mocha's) faith in people. The post went viral, and the shelter was flooded with offers to take the rescue pup. Mocha is now living in her first real home and is finally starting to understand what love feels like!
