Rage. Pure rage. That was the only way rescuers from Pet Patrol could describe how they felt after finding the dog tied up outside an abandoned building in Rybnik, Poland.
The lonely pup was dehydrated, freezing, and covered in sores and tick bites. But things get even worse. Because after speaking to locals residents, Pet Patrol volunteers discovered the dog had been stuck outside for more than a year. The only protection he had was a tiny hole dug under the house, and that looked as if it was about to collapse.
A year out in the cold
Rescuers tried to cut through the chain, but it was too thick. So they called the firefighters, who arrived with a pair of industrial bolt cutters to set the pooch free.
The dog showed his appreciation by showering the firefighters with thank you licks and letting them scratch behind his ears. In fact, everyone was amazed by his friendly nature, especially considering the dog's previous experience with humans.
Drops is searching for his second chance
Drops, as the staff decided to call him, is currently staying at the Pet Patrol shelter, and vets are really pleased with his progress. And despite being an older dog - Drops is around 10 - his loving personality and handsome face give him a great shot at finding a perfect retirement home.
Local police are still trying to locate the dog's former owner. If found, he or she faces a criminal charge of gross negligence.
