Neglect and mistreatment can have a huge impact on dogs. We see stories all the time of dogs who regain their loving, trusting nature as soon as they’re safe but unfortunately, that isn’t the case for all pups.
It’s unclear what this little Staffordshire Bull Terrier pup, named by rescuers as Graycie, had been through when she came to the vets but her refusal to eat rang alarm bells.
Too frightened to eat
Whatever shelter and veterinary staff gave the little pup, she simply ignored it. This behaviour is actually fairly common in abused dogs but the vet in charge, Dr. Andy Matthis, wasn’t going to let the poor thing slowly waste away.
The heart-warming video shows the vet sitting matter of factly next to the timid dog in her kennel.
A meal for two
He pulls out a flask and two metal dog bowls. One with food for Graycie and one with his own breakfast.
Initially, little Graycie cowers in the corner but eventually takes some kibble from her new pal.
Then when he tucks into his own breakfast, she does the same.
A thoroughly good egg
The heartwarming video reminds us that for all the bad owners out there, there are hundreds of vets, shelter workers and all round good eggs willing to go the extra mile for animals!
Well done Dr. Matthis and all the best little Graycie.
