Katya Harmon was this Christmas led upstairs to be greeted by a long lost furry friend. Nine months ago, her cat Timmy disappeared. Despite a frantic search for the cat and the family’s canvassing the neighbourhood there was no sign of him.
In the end, Katya had to give up hope of his return. To make matters worse, shortly after the disappearance of the cat, Katya's father died. It was a tragedy that struck the family down.
A sombre affair
Christmas this year was expected to be, for many reasons, a sombre affair, and it was to an extent. But, undeterred, a friend of the family and Katya’s mother Svitlana were plotting to bring a little cheer to the household.
Last month Svitlana received a call from the local Cats Protection. The volunteer said that they thought the cat recently taken in may belong to her. After dropping her daughter off at school Svitlana raced to the shelter to identify the moggy. Sure enough, Timmy had returned.
The next task was to re-introduce Timmy to Katya, and to do so Svitlana had an idea. She and her friend would hide the cat in Katya’s room until the time came for the pair to meet again.
A video posted online shows the heart-breaking moment Katya and Timmy are reunited. After a troublesome and desperately sad year for all of the family, this was surely the greatest Christmas present to be had.
