When Justin Lunsford finally asked his long-term partner the big question, he got the answer every man wants to hear. But then another question popped into Justin's head, "how do I get my pooch involved in our special day?"

And it didn't take Justin long to figure it out. Because if the loyal pup was Justin's best friend in the world, then why couldn't he be the 'best 'man' at his wedding?

An incredible bond

The decision to name a dog as the best man sounds strange at first. However, it makes perfect sense when you learn about the incredible bond between these two.

Gabe, a two-year-old service dog, came into Justin's life shortly after the US army veteran returned from a tour of Afghanistan. Justin, who lost part of his leg due to an improvised explosive device, struggled to readjust to life as he battled post-traumatic stress disorder.

Here's everything you need to know about working dogs like Gabe!

But things began to change after Gabe's arrival. The pooch offered his new human unconditional love, helping Justin along the road to recovery. And Gabe also provided some more practical support.

"He helps me with one thing to the next," said Justin. "If I fall, he'll come running to help me get up."

Gabe did a great job

Gabe did an excellent job as best man and even found the time to fill in as ring bearer. He was also very well behaved during the wedding photos and didn't do anything to steal attention from the beautiful bride. What a good boy!
