The dramatic incident happened in Zhangjiagang, China. CCTV footage shows a woman crossing a busy intersection on an electric bicycle. Then a large black car comes out of nowhere, knocking her to the ground.
Seconds later, a tiny pooch appears from under the bike. It then chases down the car until it eventually pulls over! But the brave pup doesn't want to take any chances, so he walks round to the front of the vehicle and blocks off any potential escape route.
The most loyal of all animals
After the driver gets out, the dog escorts him back to his owner. It's like he's saying "Hey, mister, you do this to my mum. Now make sure she's OK."
Things are changing for the better
Local news reports said the woman received some slight bruising, but escaped any serious injury. She told reporters she owned the dog since he was a puppy and that he's always been protective of her.
The story went viral on Chinese social media, with thousands of people praising the pup for his bravery and loyalty. The overwhelming response is another positive sign of China's changing attitude toward dogs. Around 1 in 13 people in the country are now dog owners. And earlier this year, the Chinese government reclassified dogs from livestock to companion animals.
