When the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia discovered a cat abandoned in a dog crate outside the shelter, the staff gave her the name Lasagna after the cartoon cat Garfield's favourite dinner.

But while the staff soon noticed that Lasagna had a sweet nature, it was impossible to ignore her size. Toppling the scales at a very generous 13.6kg (30lb), Lasagna struggled to walk and even groom herself.

Too big to adopt

Despite her size, the cat was relatively healthy, so she was soon put up for adoption. However, despite people visiting the shelter looking for a new feline friend, Lasagna's size sadly put them off adopting her.

Cats that are older or overweight often struggle to find new homes.

Happy ending for Lasagna!

Staff decided to take to the internet in their search for a home for Lasagna.

Fortunately, it didn't take long before the Hammer family decided to step up to the (Lasagna) plate. They've offered to give Lasagna the loving home she desperately deserves while also helping the podgy puss to lose weight.

Lasagna has settled in well with her new family and was even treated to a good grooming session on her first day in her new home!
