The clip starts with a beautiful black cat sitting on a doormat looking up at his owner. The man, Ian Allen, asks the cat, “You’re a good boy, aye?”.
The cat seems to be listening intently to Ian. After a couple of seconds, he softly replies, “aye” in a very distinctive Northern Irish accent. As their chat continues and the man repeats his question, the cat again replies, “aye” in a louder voice.
Ian sent the clip with his brother Michael who agreed that it sounded as if the cat had a distinctive Northern Ireland accent. Michael later shared the footage on Twitter to delight cat lovers and see what other people think.
It didn’t take long before the clip reached more than 210,000 views, 3,000 retweets and more than 14,000 likes.
Twitter says “aye”
While many people agreed that the cat had an accent, one Twitter user begged Michael to post a longer video after admitting that she loved the clip so much she’d been playing it on a continuous loop. Meanwhile, others said they were going to try it with their own cats and see if they had an accent too.
