2 years ago, welfare offices from the Shelby County Animal Shelter, Florida, USA, received a call they'll never forget. It was an anonymous tip-off about a dog abandoned by the side of the road.
The caller said the dog looked in terrible condition, but nothing could have prepared rescue workers for what they found. The poor pooch was dangerously thin and covered in painful-looking chemical burns. What's more, it's clear they were done deliberately.
Unforgivable and inexcusable
Chris Browder was part of the rescue team. He posted:
"The torture this dog endured and dumping him like trash is unforgivable and inexcusable."
Chris transported the rescue dog to the shelter. And although he was safe from harm, vets realised the true extent of the dog's injuries and health problems. The pooch had sepsis, pneumonia, heartworm, and could only eat through a tube.
So vets got to work. And after months of intensive medical treatment - as well as lots of love from shelter staff - 'Justice' started showing signs of improvement. In fact, his recovery was practically a miracle.
How do you like your steak, sir?
"It was amazing how social he was, considering how he'd been treated," said Chris Browder.
Justice went to live with foster dog-parents Jarrika and Jessica. But after a few weeks with this pooch, they knew he was staying forever. Justice is loving life in his new home, where he now enjoys naps, snuggles, and walkies. He even gets to eat steak on the weekends - he likes it medium rare!
