In November 2018, a young woman named Moira was walking her dog on the streets of New York when she made a shocking discovery.
Her dog seemed to be extremely interested by a sort of plastic barrel that had been discarded on the side of the street. Curious to know what was making her dog so interested, she approached the barrel and took a look inside.
What’s hiding in the bucket?
And there, looking straight back at her, was a big cat eye of a vivid green colour. Moira immediately understood what had taken place here. The cat had been shoved through the tiny hole and left to die in the barrel - the owner probably hoping that she would never be found.
The 3-year-old tabby was taken to the Animal Haven shelter and given some food and a warm place to sleep. Though she wasn’t hurt, she was terrified of people and acted out aggressively as a result.
Rehabilitating a nervous cat
Luckily, Sage, as she was renamed, fell into the right hands. We’re confident she got the rehabilitation and tender loving care she so desperately needed!
