Melbourne Hospital has recruited its latest member of staff and he has four legs, a tail and a set of cute whiskers.

Persistent puss

Meet Elwood. He lives across the road from Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia. For about a year, Elwood could be spotted strolling over to the hospital where he would spend the day keeping the hospital security staff company and greeting patients and staff as they enter the hospital.

The ginger and white moggy would spend his days snuggling up to the security staff hoping that one day he would be made an official member of staff.

Did you know that stroking a cat has been proven to have therapeutic benefits?

Finally, Elwood’s hard work has paid off.

Purrfect addition to the team

Elwood the cat has been made an official staff member and even been given his very own hospital name tag. With his special staff ID attached to his collar, Elwood has never been happier earning treats by cheering up staff and patients.

Once he’s finished his job at the hospital, Elwood saunters back across the road to his home for a well-earned rest before his next hospital shift.
