Seeing any dog suffer is distressing, but some neglect cases are so sad that they could almost break your heart in two.
A heartbreaking tale
This story involves a sweet girl called Ottilia and the fantastic people who are giving her a second chance at life.
Poor Ottilia was spotted chained to a tree in Dallas, USA. She was malnourished, covered in sores, and had lost the use of her back legs.
A member of the public called rescue workers from DogRRR, who arrived shortly after. They then untied Ottila and took her to a local vet.
A medical examination found that Ottilia was suffering from anaemia caused by a tick infestation. Vets thought this might explain the paralysis in her back legs, although the tests came back negative.
Ottilia is on the road to recovery
Vets are still trying to establish the cause of Ottilia's paralysis. But once it's figured out, they can start helping her walk again. In the meantime, Ottilia will stay with her new friends at the DogRRR centre, where she's learning what it means to be loved.
This brave pooch has got a long road to recovery ahead of her. But she's going to have lots of help along the way, and she'll never be chained up and left behind again.
