Nicola Owst had always been a huge animal lover so when her pal (who runs a stable) asked her to accompany her to collect a foal she’d seen for sale online, she didn’t hesitate to say yes.
A bad feeling
Speaking to the Dog’s Trust, Nicola explained that when they got to the paddock both women had a bad feeling. The foal did not appear to be well taken care of and the two men who greeted them did not look like animal lovers.
Nicola was about to leave when she spotted a sad-looking animal wedged into a cat carrier.
Initially, she wasn’t even sure if the animal was still alive but on closer inspection, she discovered a barely breathing Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The dog was paper-thin, his fur had worn away and he had sores all over his body from lying in his own waste.
Without a second thought, Nicola scooped the dog up in her jumper and took him away from the awful place.
Her first stop was the vet and Nicola learned that Buddy, as he is now named, had demodectic mange and a host of other conditions due to neglect.
Nicola was determined to nurse Buddy back to full health and after a few touch-and-go days, Buddy began to recover.
A happy, loving dog
He got stronger as time went on and seemed to recognise from the beginning that Nicola was his friend and rescuer.
Buddy grew into a loving, happy, healthy dog and anyone who meets him falls in love with his silly, happy personality.
We wish the pair many more happy years together.
