Life couldn't get much better for Corks. But less than a year ago, he was lying in an animal hospital after being found in the street.

A sad start to the story

Vets think was he was dragged behind a car, causing severe injuries all over his body.

Rescuers knew that Corks' wounds would eventually heal; they weren't so sure about his emotional scars. Because whatever this guy had gone through, it had destroyed his trust in humans. In fact, Corks was labelled 'un-adoptable,' which meant one thing: euthanasia.

But then the amazing people at fostering service Dogs Without Borders stepped in with a last-minute reprieve.

Are you ready to give a pooch like Corks a second-chance? Then here's a guide to adopting a rescue dog.

They spent months socialising Corks and eventually found him a foster home with Brooke Wilson. But even then things didn't go to plan. Speaking to the Dodo, Brooke said:

"He growled at me. He was slow to trust."

But Brooke never gave up, and as soon as he knew that he was safe, Corks turned into a real little love-bug!

Corks gets his happy ending!

"Initially unwilling to let a single person touch him, he now loves to spoon and greets me with kisses all over the face," said Brooke.
