August, who lives in California with her dog-mum Jennifer, celebrated the record-breaking milestone with a special cake and a small party.

A record-breaking birthday

August even wore a stylish little scarf for the occasion.

And in case you're wondering, August's 20th birthday makes her around 112 in human years.

As you can imagine, Augie isn't as sprightly as she used to be. But that doesn't stop her enjoying a daily walk around the garden, although the games of fetch are a thing of the past.

So what's the secret to Augie's long life?

Here's everything you need to know about adopting an old dog

Well, according to the team who rescued Augie, it's a combination of good genes and lots of love.

Posting on it's Facebook page, the Goldheart Golden Retriever Rescue centre wrote:

"She's lived so long largely because she's got great genetics, but also her owner, Jennifer, has done a great job of taking care of her and ensuring that they have a good relationship with Augie's vet."

Augie is enjoying her golden years

Augie also has three canine siblings who keep her feeling young.

So Happy Birthday, Augie! And here's to the next few years of your perfect dog's life!
