Joshua Ferguson was on deployment in Iraq when the mission that would alter the course of his life forever took place.

A tragic accident

He was one of five soldiers that rolled over an IED (improvised explosive device) in a truck. All five men survived but were badly injured with Joshua losing his leg in the explosion.

Tough times followed as Joshua adjusted to life as an amputee but then he came across the story of a rescue pup and knew that little Scooter was the dog for him.

A pup with the will to survive

It’s difficult to know exactly how mixed-breed dog Scooter came into the world but one thing’s for sure, his first few weeks weren’t easy.

Scooter was discovered by a group of fishermen with a badly severed leg. The men rushed the pup straight to the vets who affirmed that the little dog must have gotten his leg trapped under something and been forced to gnaw if off in order to escape.

Now, if that’s not a will to survive, we’re not sure what is!

An unbreakable bond

When Joshua heard Scooter’s story he knew he had to meet him and the pair immediately formed a brilliant bond.

When interviewed by Channel 5 Nashville, Joshua said,

“He makes it easier for me to remember, hey it’s still a beautiful day. You realize really just how tremendous a journey life is.”

We wish the pair all the very best together.
