The Mail Online reports on the birth of two kittens fathered by three-year-old Narnia. Narnia the British Shorthair was born with a face of two colours: one side grey, the other black.
The rarity of the cat’s appearance is unquestioned, and is often put down to a chimera syndrome brought about by the fusion of two embryos.
Chimeras are seen in all of nature. Most often it is flowers and plants that show striking contrasts of colour, but on occasion animals too will present left and right-side variations. However, according to Jiminez, Narnia is not a chimera cat. One thing is for sure though, he is absolutely gorgeous!
Last year Narnia sired two cats: Phoenix born grey and sister Prada born black with a dash of white under her chin. To everyone’s surprise the cats have taken a colour from either side of their father’s face! It is unclear what colour the queen was.
Phoenix has since been adopted and Prada will soon be off to her forever home. It remains to be seen whether Narnia’s next litter will have the same unexpected result.
