It is a moment no dog owner wishes to experience. And for Emma Heinrich she hopes never to have to experience it again. Climbing the stairs of her New York flat, Ms Heinrich watched her beloved French Bulldog scoot past her and, within seconds, fall over the edge into the street below.
Heinrich told WCBS-TV, “I kind of watched him reach the edge and try to slow himself down, but it was too late and he just tumbled over the edge.
“It was one of the most terrifying moments that I’ve experienced. It was really, really scary. The three seconds between him going over the edge and him making an impact was … felt like hours.”
Fully expecting the 2-year-old to be no more, Heinrich raced down to the street to find the little dog sitting up in the driver’s seat of a parked car.
Astonished by how well he looked Heinrich noticed how the car’s sunroof had deadened the impact of the dog’s fall, ultimately saving his life.
After being given a thorough check up and some stitches Winston returned home with his owner, and is now barred from being anywhere near the roof!
