Man is stunned to discover stray pup he’s rescued isn’t actually a dog at all
When a concerned animal lover in Illinois spotted a stray dog wandering the streets, he knew he had to help it, but he soon learned that looks can be deceiving.

The man spotted the puppy wandering down the road and once he had got the pup into his car, he took it to a local police station for them to transfer the dog to a pet shelter.
But things didn’t quite go to plan.
Suspicions
Once the man had handed over the animal, the police officers noticed that the puppy had very large paws and nails. They quickly realised that something wasn’t quite right.
The officers went online to look up photos of wild animal cubs in the area to see if they could identify the animal. When they came across photos of baby coyotes, everything fell into place.
This cute puppy was brought to the PD after a concerned resident found it alone on the side of a busy road. Actually, the puppy turned out to be a coyote! He was quite the attraction at the PD before he was brought to our friends at Willowbrook Wildlife. pic.twitter.com/Kx9DtsS4sd

Mistaken identity
The ‘puppy’ the man had brought to the station was in fact a coyote.
As the coyote was still very young and wouldn’t be able to survive without its mother, the officers transferred the coyote to a specialist centre. Staff at the centre agreed to care for the young coyote until it could be returned to the wild.
