A life sentence
Merlin was a guard dog, kept only for that purpose. He lived his life outside, probably tied up to a post or a tree from the time he was a puppy, well into his adult life. For years and years, he stood at his post, loyally protecting his owner’s property whenever it was needed.
But there came a time for Merlin to do what he had to do. Sick of life of loneliness and neglect, he knew he deserved better. So he tugged and tugged endlessly on his chain, almost killing himself in the process. And suddenly, he was free.
Only one wish
The Belgian Shepherd mix was found wandering the streets a couple of weeks ago. He seemed exhausted, hungry, and scared. He had a chain dragging behind him, one that had clearly been broken. It had been wrapped around his neck so tightly, and for so long, that it was painfully embedded in his neck.
The shelter took Merlin in with open arms. They showered him with love and nursed him back to health. They discovered just how wonderful he was: friendly, affectionate, and so, so gentle. His trust in humans is remarkable, given what he’s been through.
Now Merlin desires only one thing, the thing he has been fighting so hard for. A loving forever family.
