Say hello to the Selkirk Rex, or, as we like to call them, the Poodle cat. And just like their canine namesakes, these cats have got one stand out feature - their curly fur!
Meet the 'Poodle cat'
As well as being super cute, the Poodle cat makes an excellent pet. They're friendly, curious, and love playtime with their owners.
The first Poodle cat was born near the Selkirk Mountains in Wyoming, USA, back in 1987. Tests showed that the kitty had a gene mutation that caused curly fur. And because the gene was dominant, the trait could be passed down to future generations.
Poodle cats come in both the short and long hair variety and can grow to up to 16lbs. They have a life expectancy of around 13 years.
Unsurprisingly, these kitties require a lot more grooming than your average cat, although the short-haired variety is less high-maintenance.
Just don't groom them too much!
But owners who over-groom their Poodle cats may straighten out their distinctive curls forever!
So remember this if you ever get one of these adorable critters. Otherwise, your furry friend could go from Poodle cat to just plain cat!
