Lulu belonged to Tatum and his ex-wife Jenna Dewan. When she passed away in 2018, Dewan posted a moving tribute on her Instagram page.
But for his tribute, Tatum has decided to create an entire film about his relationship with the dog. Tatum will star in it and even co-direct it. But if you think you’ll need a big box of tissues to watch it, don’t worry, Tatum plans it to be a comedy.
Some of the biggest studios in Hollywood were keen to get their hands on the film, with MGM being the successful bidder. The film is expected to be released on Valentine’s weekend in 2021.
Doggy road trip
A little over a year ago I got back from a road trip where I said goodbye to my best friend. Now I’m making a movie inspired by her. So proud to announce that DOG will be released by @MGM_Studios and in theaters next Valentine’s Day weekend. pic.twitter.com/JXDqEy85JZ

In the film, Tatum plays a character called Army Rangers Briggs who along with his dog Lulu makes a road trip to attend a funeral for Briggs’ friend.
Tatum shared on Twitter stills from a real-life road trip he’d once taken with Lulu which was the basis for the film.
