Ikiru, a shorthaired cat from Yorkshire, has garnered 60,000 followers, and that number is set to grow over the next few weeks with more and more of us marooned at home and in need of a giggle.
The cat is often snapped with its mouth open and tongue lolling prompting the Mail Online to brand the feline's expressions ‘dopey’. Check out Ikiru's Instagram page for a series of shots of his hilarious antics.
The cat is owned by couple Emma and Rich who, according to the Mail, are adamant Ikiru “can close his mouth and is perfectly healthy.”
Mini-celebrities are a notable feature of the clime as more of us than ever turn to the internet for entertainment. Ikiru adds his name to a myriad of other animals that have for years been attracting fans due to their various quirks and foibles.
Arguably the most famous of all Insta pets was Grumpy Cat, still going strong despite his departure.
Vodafone and other internet providers have seen a 50% rise in the number of online users over recent weeks as more of us are instructed to work from home and stay behind closed doors.
In 2016 there were an estimated 54.2 million monthly users in the UK alone, according to Statista. That number would stand at around 80 million in the current pandemic lockdown. So… get your pet's face on Instagram!
