Come on, admit it, even dog lovers have their favourite breeds. We may want to stroke and cuddle every dog we encounter, but some are definitely cuddlier than others! UK business Dog Friendly Cottages recently conducted a straw poll to find out which of the 339 breeds of dog we liked the most.
Published in the Northamptonshire Telegraph, here are the top ten most popular dogs in the UK today:
1. Labrador Retriever
It may not come as a surprise but the Labrador is still top dog!
Riding the wave of our keenness for cute and fluffy crossbreeds, the Cockapoo looks set to stay.
3. Springer Spaniel
British through and through, the Springer Spaniel has been our faithful friend for centuries.
4. Cocker Spaniel
Chasing its nearest relative, the Cocker Spaniel - after some time away - returns to the top ten.
5. Jack Russell
Not everyone’s cup of tea but adorable nonetheless, the feisty Jack Russell is larger than life at number five.
6. German Shepherd
Old faithful, the mainstay of the police and search and rescue, the GSD is still a household favourite too.
7. Border Collie
A firm favourite still, despite its need for oodles of exercise, and then some! Watch the Border Collie go!
8. Border Terrier
Here’s a furry friend that has made an appearance even in the KC’s top ten for years: the Border Terrier.
A favourite of the author, the Lurcheris a gentle giant, and another ancient native Briton.
10. West Highland White Terrier
What's not to like about the Westie? The most loyal companion you will ever know.
