As the old saying goes - if you love something, you should be ready to let it go. And that's precisely what one young boy did to save his beloved pooch from a lifetime of abuse.

A heartbreaking decision

The 12-year-old was too small to protect his pooch from his father, who regularly beat the dog and threatened to sell it.

So he left the dog outside a local animal shelter with a note explaining the situation. It read:

"My name is Andrés and I'm 12 years old...[My father] is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won't forget me."

The staff named the pup Rene and shared his story on social media. Within just a few days, Rene had over 300 offers of the perfect forever home. Rescue workers are now looking through the applications to find the ideal match.

A happy ending for Rene

So it looks like Rene will soon start living the perfect life, and it's all thanks to a little boy who valued his dog's happiness more than his own!
