Indeed, once they opened the dumpster and started rummaging through it, they discovered three tiny puppies inside!
A trio of fortunate pups
The new-borns were lucky to have been found – they were just seconds away from being crushed by a compactor.
The mix-breed pups were trembling, cold and weak, but otherwise in good health. They were transported to a local shelter where they will be cared for by competent staff.
Since they are so young, the pups will need to be bottle-fed until they can start eating at least semi-solid food from a bowl. This should be at around 4 weeks of age, though most pups aren't completely weaned before 6 weeks of age.
Once the puppies no longer need to be fed around the clock, they will be put up for adoption. The great thing about them is that they were rescued at such a young age that they will be trained and socialised by experts from the very start! So we see a very bright future ahead for these very lucky guys!
On a mission to find the culprit
Though the criminal who abandoned these poor innocent pups has not yet been found, there were many surveillance cameras set up around the dumpster. The police's hope is that by reviewing the footage, they will be able to identify the culprit, and arrest him or her on charges of animal cruelty.
