A stray pooch earnt herself the nickname 'Subway Sally' after sandwich shop workers started dishing out a free meal - now she turns up every day looking for her feed!

The homeless dog showed up outside a Subway store in Portales, New Mexico, early last year.

A dog has got to eat

The adorable pooch sat patiently by the door, hoping that some kind passersby would throw her a few scraps.

Staff working at the store fell in love with the pooch straight away and decided to serve up a free subway special to their new furry visitor.

After scoffing up the free food, the dog disappeared back into the night.

Fast forward to the next day, and the pooch comes back again! In fact, 'Subway Sally' came back every day for an entire year!

One of the restaurant workers recently shared the adorable story via TikTok and 'Subway Sally' soon went viral. The clip now has over 3million views!

The story also took Twitter by storm with thousands of users commenting and retweeting. One person wrote:

'Not to be too dramatic but I would die for Subway Sally!'

But despite landing a free daily meal, life is still pretty tough for this street dog. Sally has had four litters since she started showing up at the subway store and several attempts to rescue her ended in failure.

"Multiple people have tried taking her, but she never wants to go," wrote one of the Subway workers. "I suspect she has a regular place to sleep and possibly care for her puppies."

Sally always goes to sleep with a full belly

Animal services believe Subway Sally has spent her entire life on the streets and wouldn't adapt to a more domesticated environment.

Still, at least Sally got some friends who will never let her go hungry ever again!
