Well, that's Jessie, the young mongrel from Portugal. Located at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Brands Hatch location, he is looking for an active home who will be able to keep up with him!
Jessie's ideal environment
Because Jessie used to be a stray in Portugal, he doesn't real know much about being a pet dog in the UK. For instance, he gets quite nervous around residential and built-up areas, so he needs to find a forever home in a quiet and rural location.
Jessie also lacks some basic social skills, so he'll need to be the only pet in the house. However, with all his energy, he would be happy sharing a house with a human teen – especially if that means lots of active playtime!
Caring for Jessie
At almost 3 years old, Jessie is a very young pooch, so his dynamic days are far from over! Being a mongrel, it’s hard to know what kind of health issues he may face later on in life, but one thing’s for sure, if you're adopting Jessie, you have to be in it for the long haul. He could still have 10-15 years ahead of him!
Jessie's double-coat will shed profusely for most of the year, so you have to be sure that's not a problem for you! However, grooming him will be a piece of cake – a quick brush-through once a week will do.
Jessie is described by Battersea as being extremely intelligent, so he should be easy to train. The trick will be to harness all that energy!
The main training Jessie needs is with other dogs. He is not aggressive towards them at all, on the contrary, he just wants to go over and say hello! But because he wants this so much, he can get frustrated when he is held back from it. He will need owners that have the time, patience, and knowledge to deal with this behaviour and work on Jessie's on-going training.
Jessie is your perfect companion if you love to go for long countryside walks or hikes. He has so much energy and just wants to be engaged in something all the time.
If you are an avid dog trainer, Battersea thinks that Jessie's intelligence makes him a good candidate for dog agility or competitive obedience.
It takes a special kind of person to take in a special kind of dog – but if you're looking for a little challenge, Jessie could be the one you're looking for!
